New Student Enrollment

If you recently moved into our district and need to register your child, please follow these instructions.  For kindergarten, come to the elementary school between 9:00 and 1:00 each day to pick up registration information. The district does offer Pre-Kindergarten to eligible families. An application may be picked up during the same time period indicated above.

If your child is in grades 1-12, call the Intermediate School at 570-645-2175 and speak to Mrs. Gauronsky. We use centralized registration. We anticipate reaching out to new families in the beginning of August with more information.

Panther Valley Elementary School’s vision is to provide a clear path for academic achievement by meeting the needs of each individual student. We are committed to seeing students model positive behavior, a strong work ethic, and a belief in oneself. Collaboration and communication among school, home, and the community is essential for student success.

At PVES, our English Language Arts curriculum focuses on providing explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, encoding, and spelling. These are the skills necessary for students be able to learn to read by the time they reach 3rd grade. In 2nd and 3rd grade we also introduce explicit instruction in text dependant analysis and text dependant writing. Students' progress is monitored through their mastery of the skills being taught and local assessments, such as DIBELS 8 and iREADY diagnostic assessments.

In math, we use a curriculum called Ready Classroom Math.  This set of instructional materials has a technology component to support student learning. The emphasis is on developing a mathematical mindset, while still practicing functional skills.

We have a Positive Behavior Support Program at the school.  This program encourages students to be Cool Cats!  Our three character traits that are taught throughout the school are Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful.  Students are given direct instruction on what these expectations look like across all settings.  Students are given Cool Cat tickets when they demonstrate behavior that shows one or more of these expectations.  Each day, one student is selected as the Cool Cat of the Day by a staff member.  This student has their picture taken with the principal and shared out on our Facebook page.  They also get a positive phone call home from the principal.

If there is anything I can do to help you or your child, please do not hesitate to give me a call at the school.  The best way to reach me is to e-mail [email protected]

Sincerely,
Robert Palazzo
Elementary Principal
